Work Life Balance: 4 Tips For Unwinding After A Stressful Work Week

Have you thought about how important it is to unwind after a hard work week?

You’re worked hard all week, but now the workweek is over, so it's important that you take some time to unwind during your days off. Sometimes, if you’re used to constantly working, it can be hard to know how you should unwind, especially if your job is extremely stressful.

However, even if you have an intense, stressful job, that makes having down time even more important. Because we’re not designed to go all of the time. You have to learn how to manage your stress before your stress manages you. Read on for some suggestions to help you can relax after an especially stressful week at work.

Tech Disconnect

One of the easiest ways to unwind is by unplugging from your tech devices. That means your TV, ipad, computer, and yes (cue shocking music), your phone. 😊

Having a tech disconnect and unplugging will prevent your work life from spilling over into your personal life, as well as give you some much-needed relaxation time. It’ll also give your body some time to rejuvenate because sitting and staring at a screen all day is not good for you at all.

If you aren't sure what to do without your phone, try grabbing a cup of coffee or tea and enjoying some time outside.

Engage In Leisurely Exercise

Even if you’re tired after a hard week and don’t feel up to working out, exercise can go a long way towards clearing your mind and improving your mood. If you are exhausted from a hard work week, don't push yourself to engage in an intensive session, a simple walk around your neighborhood or a nearby nature area will do. But if you are feeling up to it, consider trying a light jog or a bike ride.

Go Someplace New

To me, there’s nothing that compares to exploring and seeing new places and things. It’s great for satisfying my wanderlust. Take a moment to think:

Is there a new coffee shop in town you've always wanted to check out? Head on over to get your java fix! Is your town famous for a museum or other landmark that you've never visited because you figure you’ll make it there someday? Well now’s the time to buy your tickets!

Don’t underestimate the fun and relaxation you experience when you try something new in your town. And who knows, you may just find your new favorite spot.

Spend Time With Loved Ones

What better way to unwind from a hectic week then by spending time with those who love you best?

Have a reunion via Zoom – you could play games, have adult beverages or just catch up on the latest happenings. Or head to the great outdoors and invite friends to come with you on a run, walk or in town adventure. If you’ve got skills in the kitchen, you could bake a cake or make your favorite savory dish and surprise a family member or friend.

Chances are, you aren't the only one who has had a stressful work week, and they will appreciate spending time with you as well!

No matter what your job is, everyone needs some time to unwind after a stressful workweek. The best way to do this is by unplugging, exercising in nature, or trying something new. Just remember that everything is more fun when you do it with someone else, so be sure to invite a friend or family member along so they can unwind too! Because it's all about Making Time.
